Perfect timing, things that matter and the importance of expectations
This is a post that is the start of something. Welcome.
Knock knock!
The door swings open with a gentle sigh
We look at each other. Silence.
A slightly awkward bout of smiling breaks out between us.
Our breathing settles. The silence breaks.
”Hello! We’re right at the very start of something….
Would you like to come inside and have a look?”
Perfect timing
It’s confession time, we’ve been lurking. We’ve been lurking so hard we may have achieved professional status. We’ve been wavering. Dithering. Not going all-in. That happens in life, don’t you think? What seems like a good idea, hangs in the air, wafting about, not fully committed to or fully formed.
The excuses appear, spawning in from nowhere. No time. Don’t want to do a poor job of it. Not sure there’s anything to say. If we say what we actually think, we will be judged. It’s a lot of effort. No one will read it. Other people are way better at this than we are. The excuses just keep on coming 🤣
So, now seems to be the time. We want to write. We’ve wanted to write for a long time. We’ve danced around the edges of it a bit. We tell ourselves we’re better on video, just talking, rather than writing.
But.
We’re building a bit of momentum around our writing now, almost accidentally. Bev’s been on a writing retreat. Ooohhh! An idea for the book-not-yet-written has emerged. We’ve said it out loud to a few other humans. They did not recoil in horror or laugh us off the Zoom call.
We do have something we want to create and it starts here, with an exploration of the ways of being in the world that matter to us most.
What matters most, right now
Being bold
Being curious
Being thoughtful
Being human
If these ways of being matter to you too, you might want to hang around and explore with us. Beyond a simply definition of what these words mean, there’s something else that is the ‘being’ of these words, not the ‘doing’ of them.
We’re going to notice the everyday, from the seemingly mundane to the breathtakingly exciting moments where these ways of being show up or might apply, and write about that. It’s bound to be informed by our work. By the organisations we work with. By the leaders we spend time with. By our work in the Thinking Environment.
That’s what we want to think about. We want to make this a place where people can share their unique perspectives too, to add to and challenge our own, so we can build a rich picture of what it means to be this way in the world.
And more than that, when we take these ways of being into our life, work and communities, what is possible? So, you’re welcome to join us, if you like. Or just watch. Up to you.
Managing expectations, yours and our own
Dear Reader, we are inspired to write by lots of things but those moments of inspiration do not happen on a timetable, which means you may find that in the early days of being alongside us, we are a little unpredictable and haphazard about when we post. Until we find our flow. Which we will. In time. With practice. With attention. Please will you bear with us? See what unfolds.
It will helps us heaps if you do see something that sparks a thought, if you were to tell us what that is, or offer us a little encouragement, then we’ll definitely be inspired by you and we’ll find it so much easier to write if you are in our minds.
Right now we doing just the free subscription thing. But we’ll turn on the paid subscription at some point for sure. More on that when it happens.
Anyway, this is us
That’s Kate on the left and Bev on the right. We’re The Clear Thinking Partnership in the outside world.
Thanks for reading this far. We hope you want more, and we hope you want to be involved, get into the conversation, think for yourself, add your unique perspective.
That’s such a special thing; the way you see the world, your experience in it, is completely and utterly unique to you. When you speak it, or write it, or even sing it, into existence, it’s a window into your world, a portal to connection with other brilliant humans. It’s going to be fun!
I can't wait to witness/be a companion on the journey! As a fellow ditherer, I offer my compassion and support.
Wow, what a great idea, writing a book. Would love to read something that you and Kate have created (in addition to all the posts you already share). Count me in as a supporter or pledger or whatever capacity you think I may be of use.
